On Cue

Everything seemed to be on cue

It was automatic,

they knew when to enter

and when to exit.

More Often than not

At the right time

And at the right place

Maybe at the wrong time

But the right place

Otherwise at the right time

But the wrong place.

Everything seemed to be on cue

Everyone knew what to say

From your highest moments

To your lowest points

People seemed to always know

What to say at the right time

At the right place.

Everything seemed to be on cue

When to open the curtains

And close the show

Everyone knew where to stay

Center right, upper left

Everyone else knew

What purpose they serve

What role they played

Everyone else knew what to do

Except me and you

Everything seemed to be on cue

When to take a bow

And close the show

When to roll the credits

And thank the ones who made it

But you are an exception to these cues

You were speechless

Because I was the one

Who always knew what to say.

You never knew

Where and when to enter

You were always lost

And not at hand

Everyone thought you’d ruin the show

But you made it a little more worth watching

You were unpredictable

You were incredible

You are an exception to these cues

You may have entered my life

At the wrong time

And the wrong place

But it still felt right

The whole time

I called you mine.
